I was thinking about Omaha’s beautiful O! So Surprising campaign when I saw the recent blogpost by Tim Ferris and the picture he took while in Omaha. You have to check out the picture on his blog to get the full effect of “O!”. Do you think the chamber would post this on their website?

So, who brought the best selling author of The 4-Hour Workweek to Omaha, NE? It was EO Nebraska, the local chapter of the Entrepreneur Organization, EO. This is perhaps one of Omaha’s best kept secrets for entrepreneurship. The local chapter has 39 members with revenues ranging from 1.3-350 million, 3-350 employees, and ages 29-48. I’ve been a member since 2005 and have been fortunate to be the chapter’s learning chair for the last two years that we’ve had our annual EOBerkshire event. Next year we hope to get Warren himself to address our group! You can get another glimpse of Tim Ferriss on my blog, The 4-Hour Sleepweek, about his trip and other lessons learned.
What other entrepreneurial organizations are out there that Omaha is keeping secret? Tom Chapman and the Omaha Chamber are hosting monthly Cornstalk Meetings for emerging entrepreneurs and innovators. I won’t name names but there is a co-working plan emerging to facilitate Omaha entrepreneurship in the works among some successful entrepreneurs. Then, there is the more traditional (and less entrepreneurial in my opinion) organizations like the Midwest Venture Forum, Small Business Administration, Chamber of Commerce, etc.
Now, the question I’d like to have answered from readers is this. If you’re an entrepreneur or you know one, where do you get your inspiration from in Omaha? Who do you go to for advice, support, idea sharing? Is it one of these organizations or a different one or better yet a person or mentor in Omaha? Please post comments and share with the rest of us so we O!
