The last day to register for the YP Bus Challenge is this Saturday, April 18th, which coincides with its kick off at Earth Day Omaha.

If you’ve ever wanted to help improve Omaha’s public transportation system, this is your opportunity. Its goal is to engage our community to build a system that meets our needs and leads toward a more sustainable living environment.

Even if you’re not participating, it’s worth your time to check out their site as they’ve put together a great resource for riding the bus, from tips to a trip planner. If you’ve signed up for the challenge, add a comment below with your team name and members and tell us your plan to take down the competition, e.g. bus to work, bus to the movies, bus to dinner, bus to the gas station…wait a minute.

From chamber news:

The three-week Bus Challenge, sponsored by YPC, encourages young professionals to expand their bus riding habits, assess the Metro Area Transit (MAT) bus system’s service, provide feedback about the strengths and weaknesses of the current system to increase use, and to reinforce public transportation’s role in sustainable living.

The YPC encourages young professionals and others to form teams of up to five people to compete to see who can collectively ride the most miles on the public bus system.

Register by Saturday, April 18, at http://www.ypbuschallenge.com.

The Bus Challenge concludes on Saturday, May 9, with a final team hour calculation. The winning team will earn hundreds of dollars in prizes from the Challenge sponsors, Metro Area Transit, Prairie Life Fitness, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Olsson Associates and others.

For more information about the Bus Challenge, contact Beth Katz at (402) 659-9497 or Craig Moody at (402) 681-9458.

Here’s another incentive, from the Challenge’s website:

This just in…The first 50 spotters to document an Omaha mayoral or city council candidate riding a MAT bus during the Challenge will win a $5 Gift Certificate to Jimmy John’s. Documentation must exist as a picture which can be sent to our Email, Facebook, Twitter or text photo to: 402 (681-9458).

Last month, Jeff grabbed a quick interview with Craig at the YP Summit. If you missed it in our first post, be sure to check it out:
