Its time for BarCamp again! We’re very excited that the second annual BarCamp event will be happening in a few short weeks, October 2nd & 3rd at Nomad Lounge.

For those unfamiliar with BarCamp, here’s a rundown from the newly-launched Barcamp Omaha website:

BarCamp is an “un-conference”, or rather a conference without a speaker list, without a fixed schedule, and without remorse. Our open format offers attendees the unique opportunity to network, learn, and communicate about what they are passionate about! BarCamp conferences are held all over the world, but at BarCamp Omaha we do something special. Uniting techies, creatives, and entrepreneurs, we are not merely a “tech conference” or a “design conference.” Instead, we strive to include all local innovators and give you a platform to learn, teach, and explore the limits of your creativity.

Essentially, the format for BarCamp is this:

  • Opening party Friday night (drinks provided)
  • Saturday morning, anyone can sign up for a time slot to give a 30 minute talk. The talk can be about anything, within the broad categories of technology, design/creative and entrepreneurship/business.
  • Three talks will go on at the same time, one from each category.
  • Break for lunch & mingling (lunch provided)
  • More sessions to fill out the day
  • Dinner on your own followed by closing party

Last year was Omaha’s inaugural BarCamp, bringing together over 100 people from around the region. The three-day event held at Frost Acres, drew a mixed crowd of designers, developers, marketers, entrepreneurs, artists and more. Over 25 people gave talks on a wide variety of subjects ranging from business to design to really techie. This year promises to be even bigger and better, with more people being familiar with the BarCamp format.
