The first Startup Drinks gathering and second annual Twestival will both take place in Des Moines this week.

Des Moines Startup Drinks is a casual, monthly meetup of entrepreneurs, small business owners and others who are interested in local startup culture. The first event takes place tonight at 5 p.m. on the rooftop patio at Tally’s (2712 Beaver Ave) in Beaverdale. The first round of drinks will be provided by Kerber Technology Solutions.

Twestival (Twitter Festival) began last year as a network of independent meetups held all across the world with the idea of “using social media for social good.” Mars Cafe (2318 W University Ave) is both organizing and hosting Des Moines’ Twestival at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 25. It will feature live music, beer from Olde Main Brewing Company, and a stated goal of earning Iowa’s first Swarm Badge (50+ users checking in at one venue) on location-based social network Foursquare. Organizers are requesting a $3 donation at the door to go to Concern Worldwide, a Dublin, Ireland-based humanitarian organization working rectifying hunger and poverty issues worldwide.
