The first Startup Drinks Lincoln was a resounding success!

I arrived at Dino’s at 6:45 p.m. to find that some people were already there. I guess they were anxious. Not long after that people started trickling in at a steady pace and they just naturally did exactly what I hoped they would do, which was to order a beverage, mingle, and get to know one another.

By 7:30 p.m. we had at least 25 people talking to one another and I still hadn’t made any special announcements, there were no speakers or formalities. It was as if everyone in the room knew each other and it was music to my ears.

The reason I wanted to do Startup Drinks Lincoln was because I wanted an event once a month that was short on formalities and left nearly all of the time to simply get to know one another. I hated to break up what seemed like a perfectly running event but I felt the need to say something. I got everyone’s attention, thanked them all for coming, gave an opportunity for anyone to make any announcements they wanted and then we all just resumed back to our conversations. Dino’s closes at 10 p.m. and they ended up kindly showing us the door at 10:30. It was truly perfect in that it was everything I wanted it to be and nothing that I didn’t.

I am very open to other ideas to improve the event so if anyone has ideas please respond to this post in the comments or comment on the event page linked at the bottom. The reason for the event is to help all the brilliant people in Lincoln meet one another and hopefully help them with their existing business or assist them in starting one. I want to afford every opportunity for people to do just that so please do share your thoughts.

Many thanks to everyone who attended. Thank you to Dino’s for being such a great host. And, a big thank you to Silicon Prairie News and Nebraska Entrepreneur for helping promote the event.

The next event will be Thursday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at Dino’s Eastside Grille (2901 South 84th Street #16).

If you’re looking for a chill atmosphere to meet entrepreneurs and other startup-minded people in the Lincoln area please stop by. All are welcome.

Check out our event page on Facebook for more info, news, and to RSVP to the second event.
