When the renowned TED talks series makes its local debut in Des Moines next month, the one-day event will feature notable Iowans discussing issues with global impact. TEDxDesMoines organizer, Alexander Grgurich, announced the speaker lineup today:
- John Carver, Superintendent of Van Meter Community Schools
- Sue Savage-Rumbaugh, Scientist with Special Standing at Great Ape Trust
- Michael Ferrari, Co-Founder of SmartyPig
- Christian Renaud, CEO of Palisade Systems
- Charlie Wittmack, Founder of The World Tri
When asked about those chosen to speak, Alexander said, “Our speakers were chosen to fit in with [TED’s] theme of world-class innovation and work being done by people in our own backyard. We also picked a lineup that was diverse in the types of industries involved. This really speaks to Des Moines’ strengths that we have thought leaders in business, education, science, and art presenting about their passions.”
TEDxDesMoines will take place Sunday, May 16, beginning at 2 p.m. at the State of Iowa Historical Building (600 E. Locust St).
