Earlier this week, Israeli agrochemical company Makhteshim Agan Industries announced that it will purchase Ankeny’s Albaugh, Inc for nearly 1 billion dollars. Albaugh is self-described as the “largest wholly owned formulater/packager of crop protection products in the industry.”

The company was founded by local entrepreneur Dennis Albaugh (left) in 1979 and is currently 100% owned by Albaugh, who ranked #785 on Forbes‘ 2008 list of the The World’s Billionaires.

Israel’s MA Pays $1 Billion for U.S. Herbicide Maker

Makhteshim Agan Industries, an agrochemical company based in Israel, will buy Albaugh, a maker of herbicide based in Iowa, for about $1 billion.

Also announced today, Ames-based Advanced Analytics is expanding to Europe. The pharmaceutical and life sciences company is currently based in the Iowa State University Research Park and features Des Moines-based venture capitalist John Pappajohn and former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad (among others) on its board of directors. The new European headquarters, including both sales and laboratory space, will be in Technologiepark on the campus of Heidelberg University in Heidelberg, Germany.
