Prairie Ventures – Graphic Designer (Omaha)

Prairie Ventures is a holding company incubating several startups in the healthcare IT space.

Our areas of focus including remote patient monitoring, telehealth, disease management, laboratory automation, and quality assurance applications. Prairie Ventures also owns WriteLife, a publishing company, and has non-controlling interests in a variety of technology companies. We are rounding out our team with energetic people that loving solving complex problems in a fun, fast-paced environment.

This person will work with Product Development to design simple, polished user interfaces for web, desktop and mobile applications, and Marketing to create striking visual campaigns.

At a minimum, you:

  • Have examples of existing work you can share (an online portfolio is a plus)
  • Are able to concept a design based off of loose specifications
  • Have a general understanding of HTML/CSS (preferably HTML5/CSS3)
  • Know your way around Adobe CS (PhotoShop, InDesign)
  • Have a basic understanding of user interface and user experience design
  • Are able to take direction and work efficiently to meet tight deadlines

Ideally, you have:

  • Have experience designing for multiple industries
  • UX experience building consumer facing products
  • Web and mobile UI design experience

These persons will be responsible for developing our diverse set of products and solving business problems using technology.

At a minimum you:

  • Are a polyglot. We are using many different languages to solve diverse problems.
  • Have written working, production software that people use (and preferably we can see)
  • Have the ability to take abstract concepts and turn them into concrete code
  • Can explain technical concepts in a way that a non-technical person can understand

Ideally, you:

  • Have written production code in multiple languages in various environments (web, server, desktop, mobile)
  • Have contributed code to an Open Source software project
  • Have a GitHub account with code we can look at
  • Have experience developing consumer facing products
  • Have worked in a startup environment, or at least have an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Are interested in learning new languages and environments.

We have a special interest in low-level Android and Linux development experience at the moment, but that is a bonus, not required.

Omaha World-Herald – Online Editor (Omaha)

Omaha.com is the online version of the largest daily newspaper in Nebraska with local, regional, national and international news, weather, and sports and features.

Omaha.com, the region’s most visited news, sports and entertainment website, is looking for an online editor to join it’s 24/7 digital team.

The ideal candidate will be a “news consumer,” with an understanding of how different demographics interact with national and local news sites. The candidate also needs to have Final Cut video editing experience, Flash, HTML and other multimedia skills that he or she can use to enhance stories for our growing audience.

Ultimate Marketplace / The Omaha Newspapers – Web Designer / Developer / Graphic Designer (Omaha)

The Omaha Newspapers is located online at theomahanewspapers.com.

We have an immediate opening for a Web Designer / Developer / Graphic Designer to help develop and maintain our present site, as well as develop and maintain future sites. This is the perfect position if you have a solid background in developing quality websites, have an excellent aptitude with technology and software.

You will work with PHP and My Sequel, and must be comfortable with both the front-end and back-end aspects of web development.

Other responsibilities for this position include:

  • Design miscellaneous marketing materials
  • Able to work with customers and staff on how to effectively use the site(s)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve code errors and cross-browser compatibility
  • 3-5 years of development experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong communication, organization and time management skills are a must
  • Network / server experience preferred.
