Des Moines-based BitMethod, a mobile and web app tech startup, is jumping in the family van in a couple of weeks to make a one-day trip to Omaha. On their agenda for Tuesday, February 8th* is an afternoon seminar discussing the strategies and successful use cases of mobile followed by a meetup to, well, meet folks in Omaha.

Details for the talk, “Straight Talk About Mobile,” can be found at stamomaha.eventbrite.com. It’ll take place from 3-4:30 p.m. at What Cheer. It’s free to attend, but is limited to the first 25 people to register (19 spots remaining).

Details about the meetup, which will be held at Upstream in the Old Market (514 South 11th Street) can be found at meetup.com/bitmethod. It’ll kick off at 6 p.m. and the BitMethod team says they’ll be buying attendees “delicious craft beers as long as we can afford to.” (Left: Flyer image from bitmethod.tumblr.com)

As we see the community on the Silicon Prairie grow, it’s events like this that are awesome to see take place – startups from Des Moines making an effort to mingle with individuals from Omaha. I’ll be attending and if you’re in Omaha, I hope you’ll consider it, too. Let’s give them a warm welcome.

I reached out to BitMethod CEO Daniel Shipton to learn more about why they’re holding the meetup in Omaha:

We’re throwing the Meetup to basically say “Hey, we’re in town! Come say hi and we’ll buy you a beer!” BitMethod is all about people. One of the tenets of our Field Guide is “People Over Organizations.” We want to meet the people behind Omaha’s startups, creative projects, and corporations. I hope they want to meet us, too.

Update January 31, 11:30 p.m. – With impending inclement weather, BitMethod has moved their Omaha events back one week.
