Today is a monumental day for Silicon Prairie News. Two years and seven months ago, we launched Silicon Prairie News in Omaha with the focus of telling the stories of entrepreneurs and creatives we knew existed in the community but hadn’t had a chance to have their great work shared with the masses.

Shortly after, our focus turned to Des Moines where we saw a similar passion and energy around entrepreneurship and the startup community. With great thanks to Geoff Wood and others, Des Moines is now part of the broader community we call the Silicon Prairie.

Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of Silicon Prairie News – Kansas City Edition! We’ve always looked to Kansas City as a natural fit, and we were aware of many of the companies making a difference on the community both regionally and beyond.

Over time, as we’ve continued to develop and grow Silicon Prairie News, we’ve now finally arrived at the point where we are confident in our ability to fully devote time, energy and resources to covering and continuing to build the Kansas City community, alongside Omaha, Des Moines and the surrounding region.

So hold on folks, we’re in for an exciting year with three amazing cities filled with passionate individuals and companies, but don’t take our word for it, I’d like to share some thoughts from individuals on the ground in the Kansas City community.

Adam Coomes, President of Infegy, Inc.

“I’m thrilled SPN is launching in Kansas City! Over the last few years, startup activity in Kansas City has been increasing. Even in just the last few months, between Kauffman Foundation‘s new Kauffman Labs initiative and the work of some great people in this city consolidating and inspiring entrepreneurs, there’s never been a better time for such a great publication to support our growing startup community. We have some real talent creating disruptive technologies and brands that deserve Midwest and national attention. Watch out for Kansas City. We’re on the move!”

Bo Fishback, Vice President of Entrepreneurship, Kauffman Foundation

“SPN rocks…it’s that simple. We’re super psyched that they are coming to KC to shine a light on some of the great entrepreneurs and startups that are taking off here.”

Nick Seguin, Manager of Entrepreneurship, Kauffman Foundation

“SPN, because it covers entrepreneurs and innovation, makes perfect sense in KC. The city has long been known for both. As the big companies (who were once startups) continue to push the envelope, and as new companies form, consistent coverage will absolutely serve to bring visibility and also pull the community together.”

Thanks again to you, our readers and community, for helping to continue building and creating the bold new ideas which provide us opportunities to talk more about the great work happening on the Silicon Prairie!

Stay tuned today for our first Kansas City area company profile, an introduction of our Kansas City contributors and more. And, of course, make sure March 1st is marked down on your calendar as we’ll be holding our Kansas City Launch Party from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at McFadden’s Sport Saloon (Facebook Event).
