A West Coast-based venture capital firm with operations in San Francisco and Seattle has added a Silicon Prairie location to its stable. Indie Ventures, which focuses on funding and business development for digital media and advertising ventures, announced today the opening of an office in Kansas City, Kan.

“We have done our homework and are excited about what we are seeing in the Midwest,” Joe Poletto, managing partner for Indie Ventures, said in a press release. “Kansas City has a burgeoning technology scene and a presence there will allow us to capitalize on the energy and opportunities we are seeing.”

With its new location, Indie Ventures is bringing to Kansas City an operation aimed at helping identify new media companies in need of infrastructure capital funding and access to advertising partners.

Bob Marcusse, CEO of the Kansas City Area Development Council, told the Kansas City Business Journal that Indie Ventures’ move signals the success of the council’s KCnext effort.

“We’ve had several life science venture firms come to Kansas City in the last year,” Marcusse said. “This is the first recruited here from outside the market that is not in life sciences. It is a very telling success.”
