For the second year in a row, Chevy is teaming up with South by Southwest Interactive (SXSW) to conduct the ultimate road trip to Austin. This year’s competition will have a distinct Omaha flavor, with a team from Omaha being one of the 10 teams from nine different North American cities driving to Austin. As a member of the Omaha team and a contributor to Silicon Prairie News, I’m excited to be one of five residents of the Silicon Prairie region taking off today for Austin today.

Last year, Chevy and SXSW sent eight teams in Chevy automobiles, giving each team unique missions and challenges to document and broadcast online to promote SXSW. In 2010, the team from Detroit won the competition. But this year Chevy shuffled the deck, adding two teams from Canada (Toronto and Vancouver), a second Detroit team, and our local Omaha team.

The Omaha team, dubbed Buffett’s Bros. (you know that Warren guy?), is captained by Omaha native Scott Hale and departed earlier today with scheduled overnight stops in Wichita, Kan. and Denton, Texas. The Chevy Challenge is not based on speed, as our team has the shortest drive of all the represented cities, but rather the creativity and uniqueness of completing the team challenges. To follow along with the challenges that Buffett’s Bros will be doing, connect with the team on Facebook or follow their updates on Twitter, @BuffettsBros.

Let’s meet the Buffett’s Bros., which are comprised of individuals from Omaha and across the Silicon Prairie (including yours truly!). Photos courtesy of Buffett’s Bros.
