It’s shaping up to be a busy week for folks in Des Moines, where three events of interest are scheduled over four nights. Later in the week, Omaha and Kansas City will get in on the event fun, too. Things kick off this week at Drake University with a lecture on innovation and entrepreneurship from visiting Fulbright scholar Igor Dubina. Startup Weekend Kansas City, which runs from Friday to Sunday, rounds out this week’s events. In between, there will be happy hours, meetups and more.

Details from the event websites are below followed by links to sites where you can learn more. Find more upcoming events on our event page, siliconprairienews.com/events, and submit an event for consideration to editor@siliconprairienews.com.

Monday, 7 p.m. – Lecture by Visiting Fulbright scholar Igor Dubina

Des Moines – Bulldog Theater at Drake University‘s Olmsted Center (2875 University Ave.)

What is the impact of national culture on innovative and entrepreneurial activity? The lecturer will demonstrate why, when and how culture does bring influence on entrepreneurship. Many issues concerning how entrepreneurial ideas and practices are generated and nurtured across different cultures are to be considered, discussed and practically illustrated during the lecture. The lecture is based on a review of over 200 cross-cultural studies on inventiveness, innovation and entrepreneurship published during the last 25 years.

Tuesday, 6:30-8:30 p.m. — Startup City Des Moines Builders Forum

Des Moines — BitMethod offices (418 Sixth Ave., Suite 1210)

We’re asking people out there in the trenches really building stuff to crack a few beers with us and share what you’re working on.

No pixel-perfect pitch decks: bring your storyboards, wireframes, or prototypes — that raw, nitty-gritty stuff you’re working with right now. Share it with the group and see what happens. Maybe you’ll get some good honest feedback. Maybe you’ll meet a designer or programmer that wants to get involved. Hell, maybe you’ll learn something just from trying to explain it to someone else.
