Next week’s Big Omaha festivities are just around the corner, and we want to make sure you have all the details on the evening events, all of which are open to the public. We have a number of venues booked to accommodate the more than 600 attendees we have coming in from more than 20 states and three countries and the hundreds of local community members we anticipate will come out and add to the energy.

We’ll officially kick off Big Omaha 2011 at 8 p.m. Wednesday with the Big Omaha Opening Party presented by Rackspace at Capitol Lounge (1011 Capitol Avenue). This party will be the first chance for attendees and local community members to mix and mingle with other conference- and party-goers, including our slate of accomplished speakers.

If you’re an attendee joining us at the party, we’ll have badges available for pickup outside the door of the venue from 7:30-9:30 p.m., with doors to the party opening 30 minutes early for badge-holders. (Note: If you’re an attendee and can’t make the party, there will be registration Thursday morning at KANEKO, as well.)

To whet your appetite for the party less than a week away, here are few photos of Capitol, which is located on the north side of downtown (Photos from omahacapitol.com):

If you find that low lights and constant DJ bass aren’t quite your flavor for the night, don’t fret. We’ve made the opening party pretty eclectic and have secured Blazin’ Pianos (1003 Capitol Avenue), a live-music venue, right next door. There, two pianists will take the stage dueling for your requests.

Whether you decide to bust a move at Capitol or stick to a more mellow toe-tapping opening party experience at Blazin’ Pianos, you are free to pick your poison at either location as there are Big Omaha drink specials at both venues. And, regardless of where you choose to spend the evening, there are plenty of opportunities to mix and mingle before the doors open at KANEKO (1111 Jones Street) at 8 a.m. Thursday.
