We’re not quite sure how this one flew under our radar for so long, but if you’re in Kansas City with an open schedule on Thursday, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce is holding its 2011 Innovation Conference at H&R Block World Headquarters (1 H & R Block Way). Advance registration for the event costs $100 for chamber members and $125 for non-members.

The day-long conference, billed as a way to “help you inspire great ideas from those around you and learn how to turn those concepts into reality,” opens with a keynote speech from Dennis Bushnell (photo, left, from lifeboat.com), chief scientist for NASA’s Langley Research Center. He will discuss the concept of ideation, the creation and evaluation of ideas.

After Bushnell’s opening talk, breakout sessions will follow two tracks: building a regional culture of innovation and success stories from local innovators at every stage of business. The event also features a midday keynote from Henry and Tom Block of H&R Block covering Kansas City’s rich history of innovation and, after afternoon breakout sessions, a closing keynote from Dan Carter of Policy Solutions addressing the future of innovation in the region. A networking happy hour follows from 4-6 in the lobby of the H&R Block building.

The slate of speakers and panelists for breakout sessions is full of key players in the Kansas City startup scene, including several who have been and will be prominently featured on Silicon Prairie News. More information on Thursday’s event is available on the Kansas City Chamber’s site.
