With the 2011 Ames Straw Poll set for Saturday and the 2012 presidential election drawing ever closer, a couple of Des Moines-area companies have teamed up to launch a social media communication portal focused on all things election.

Tribe Effect, based in West Des Moines, and Innova Ideas and Services, based in Des Moines, today unveiled Social Decision, which uses social media to gather real-time information about the 2012 presidential election. It serves as a political commentary aggregator, allowing users to manage, filter and identify trending election-related topics as they take shape. Social Decision will gather relevant news stories, social media streams and other information sources to give users a pulse on politics. Social Decision will originate its own blog, videos and analytical content related to the social elements of the race, as well.

Social Decision also captures the extensive discussion from the online community surrounding various election topics, campaigns and candidates. The platform platform’s aims, according to a release, are threefold:

  • Help voters make informed decisions
  • Help media simplify their searches
  • Help politicians see what topics are trending

“We will be attending events and connecting with political reporters to gather information as it happens around the debate and straw poll,” Christine Stineman, founder of Tribe Effect, said in the release. “Social Decision will be our platform to share exclusive intelligence. It also will allow users to work efficiently to identify what and who is trending, and where – and keep track of the most buzzworthy political information via social media.”

Said Beth Cross, president of Innova/Sigler Companies: “Social Decision approaches social media with a focus on the people. Political candidates’ success depends on how people respond and act.

“Social Decision will present reliable, accurate, timely and relevant information now and going forward in this election cycle. We look forward to supporting organizations, activists and voters with this content-rich tool to help them navigate the communication surrounding the election.”
