John McDonald, the man who has helped the Boulevard Brewing Company become the toast of Kansas City — and beyond — will share insights about the growth of his business at an event Wednesday night. Kansas City Public Library Director Crosby Kemper III will lead a conversation with McDonald, Boulevard’s founder, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kansas City’s Central Library (14 West 10th St.). The evening begins with a 6 p.m. reception.

McDonald (above, screenshot from boulevard.com), who was recently named the winner of the 2011 Brewers Association Recognition Award, started the brewery in 1989 and hand-delivered Boulevard beer to local restaurants in his pick-up truck. Today, his company employs over 90 people and is the largest craft brewer in the Midwest and the largest independent American brewer in Missouri.

For those interested in attending the event, online registration is available.
