It seems to be pure coincidence, but on the day before snow is scheduled to make its first serious appearance of the season, the City of Omaha released today what it’s calling its “first-ever ‘Snow-App’.”
In a press release, City officials said the app will advise users when a snow-emergency is in effect, notify them of proper parking procedures during a snow emergency and keep them up to date on road conditions during and after a storm.
The app, which is currently available in the Android Market and is expected to hit the App Store in the coming days, was developed by Omaha-based Lovgren Marketing Group, whose in-house developer is Tom Nemitz.
After learning about the news of the snow app, we asked our resident meteorologist, er, active weather tweeter Jeff Slobotski what this means for the city.

“The release of this app couldn’t be more timely as we’re on the eve of our first snow event of 2011,” Slobotski said. “As resident of this great city, it’s reassuring to me to know that now not only can I tweet, post photos and ‘check in’ to the snow event, I can also stay up to date on the changing circumstances taking place around Omaha as the snow descends on our streets.”
Here are a couple screenshots of the app from the Android Market:
