Heads up, students: Omaha’s first Startup Job Crawl is February 15

By this point in the semester, you’re well beyond syllabus day in your Spring classes, you’ve tried to stifle your Facebook addiction once or twice and you’ve hit the library more this semester than ever before. By this point in the semester, you’re well beyond syllabus day in your Spring classes, you’ve tried to stifle your Facebook addiction once or twice and you’ve hit the library more this semester than ever before. Now that you’re starting to get into the swing of things, why not jump the gun on your internship search.

That’s where the Silicon Prairie News Startup Job Crawl comes in. From 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15 make sure to ditch the library for this spring’s Startup Job Crawl at the Mastercraft building in North downtown Omaha.

About Startup Job Crawl

Not quite a bar crawl and not quite a career fair, this Startup Job Crawl will provide the chance to visit the people behind local startups, see their products in action and learn about the culture of working in this innovative community. And, plus, we’ll have beer … rootbeer.

We held the first Startup Job Crawl in Des Moines this past November with more than 80 university students and 22 startups. Look for more to come this time as we set foot on new ground at our crawl in Omaha.

Who should join?

If you’re a student, recent grad or advisor on the job and internship hunt, looking to start the networking experience or simply discovering what it takes to work for a startup, this is the place for you. You’ll break into groups and venture along stops in the Mastercraft building, meet different companies and learn about new opportunities. All majors are welcome to check it out and guess what, it’s fo free.

Three reasons to register

Below are some key takeaways from our first Startup Job Crawl in Des Moines

    • 60 percent of attendees made at least 10 connections.
    • Nearly every student said they’d like to participate again.
    • 4 out of 5 companies said they met candidates they’d be interested in hiring.

Participating companies

Most companies have jobs and internship positions available and are looking for students like you to join the team. Not all companies are hiring but this is a good way to become the name – and face – of the person they will want to hire when the time comes. Essentially, this could be your foot in the door to your future internship or even, your first real-life, full-time position. Even if you aren’t necessarily looking for an internship or job this semester, think of it as an investment in a connection, a connection that could take you into a sweet career.

Here’s the start of our list of startups and experienced companies who have signed up to join us. Scout them out and stay tuned for more companies to come on board as we get closer to the date.

For updates on all those participating, follow our Omaha Startup Job Crawl twitter list, twitter.com/siliconprairie.

“Everybody is very interested in what they do, and they are passionate about it… you don’t see that with normal people at normal jobs.” – Chris Tidd, Startup Job Crawl participant

Program Schedule

5 p.m. Opening welcome – Silicon Prairie News – Here, we’ll divide students into groups and each group will visit three stops where each company will make a brief introduction at the beginning of each stop.

5:30 – 6:15 p.m. – Startup Stop 1

6:15 – 7 p.m. – Startup Stop 2

7 – 7:30 p.m. – Startup Stop 3

7:30 p.m. Closing statements and “After Hours” networking reception with startups and students

After Hours

No bar crawl would be complete without an “after hours” meal, so don’t fret we won’t leave you hanging. Immediately after the Job Crawl rotations, we’ll round students and startups together for our own version of After Hours where we’ll be serving up keg rootbeer and pizza, giving more time to mingle with those you met during the crawl.

Not a student but want to get involved?
