Industrial designer Grant Schultz believes he has a companion that can become iPhone’s best friend.

Meet SkyDog, Schultz’s system designed to help people get the most from their iPhones while on the go. Tailored to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, SkyDog consists of a three components: an iPhone case, a form-fitting cradle and a swivel-mount base. The base can attach to bars (bikes, strollers or motorcycles), flat surfaces (walls or desks) or tripods (for photo and video use). There’s also a suction mount available for using SkyDog on windows, windshields or mirrors.

Schultz, who recently relocated from Boulder, Colo. to Iowa City, launched a campaign for SkyDog on crowd-funding site Kickstarter earlier this month. As of Friday morning, 11 backers had pledged a total of $10,704 toward SkyDog’s goal of $60,000 (one backer pledged $10,000). That money, Schultz says in his KickStarter video, would help cover tooling costs for SkyDog, a product that he has spent the last year developing and testing.

“I created SkyDog,” Schultz says in the video, “to be the world’s most versatile mounting system for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.” More on the product, courtesy of its Kickstarter page:

You depend on your iPhone to work, play, and navigate. SkyDog brings iPhone magic wherever you go – hands free. Any angle, anywhere: bike, in the car, or around the house. Imagine a seamless, beautiful experience for living and working with your iPhone. Case, cradle, and go-anywhere versatility, that’s SkyDog.
