The hallways of the Austin Convention Center are filled with South by Southwest signage and attendees.

Last year around this time, I felt an awful lot like Kevin McCallister.

When South By Southwest Interactive rolled around, my fate mirrored that of the precocious protagonist from “Home Alone.”

Silicon Prairie News team leaves town. Michael stays in town. Michael is home alone. And, once the novelty of using dad’s aftershave and eating ice cream sundaes all day wears off, Michael begins to miss the SPN team and wonder what they’re up to at SXSW.

It’s with that experience in mind that we’re bringing you a special feature over the next few days: SXSnippets.

Representatives of several startups and other organizations from across the Silicon Prairie have generously agreed to take time out of their whirlwind SXSW schedules to journal about their experiences here. The goal of the guest posts is to showcase the sights and sounds of the event and to reveal how what’s going on in Austin fits into big-picture goals for organizations from the Prairie.

The SPN team is in full force at SXSW, too. And, this time, I got to tag along. (Home Alone II: Lost in Austin, anyone?) That means our coverage over the next few days will skew more Middle Texas than Middle West. But our hope is that shift in perspective allows us to showcase several of the region’s startups in a new and different light.

Simply put, we believe SXSW is an extremely important event to the startups we report on, and over the next few days we’re covering it as such. Plus, we want to share it with those of you who would like to be here but aren’t.

So stay tuned for a steady diet of SXSnippets over the next few days. Because when you’re home alone, you can’t subsist on sundaes alone.
