Spring break for nerds” is about to begin – er, I mean – South by Southwest Interactive starts Friday in Austin. The annual event, one of three events that make up the 10-day South by Southwest festival, will bring together nearly 20,000 people from around the world for five days of panels, presentations, parties and discussions around what’s happening on or with the web. Amidst its dense crowds, in-depth talks and free drinks, more than 100 entrepreneurs, creative individuals and business professionals will be traveling from the Silicon Prairie region to make their mark on SXSW.

Today kicks off our coverage of SXSW as our team will pack up and fly down to Austin on Friday to take up residence in a house through Tuesday. We’ll be covering the activity of other Silicon Prairie attendees as well as holding a meetup, the Silicon Prairie Cereal Bar. Among the Silicon Prairie attendees, we’ve found representation on five panels, a participant in the accelerator, a finalist in the awards and a “buspreneur” on a StartupBus.

To help keep you on top of all that’s taking place, whether you’re reading SPN from Austin or afar, we’ve put together a page that’ll serve as an HQ for Silicon Prairie at SXSW. For links to the panels, pitches and awards as well as a Twitter list of attendees and details on our Cereal Bar, visit siliconprairienews.com/sxsw.

Thanks to our sponsors

Helping us serve up hundreds of bowls of cereal and make connections along the way is an awesome group of sponsors whose work aligns with ours at Silicon Prairie News. Three organizations, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Greater Des Moines Partnership, have put their financial support behind our event and are also sending staff to attend SXSW.

Please join us in showing our appreciation for their support by thanking them on Twitter, @OmahaChamber, @BusinessIowa and @DesMoinesMetro.

PrairieCast SXSW Preview

On Tuesday’s episode of Silicon Prairie News’ PrairieCast, I joined our own Geoff Wood and the show’s co-host, Andy Brudtkuhl, along with guest Brian Waller of the Iowa Economic Development Authority to chat about our expectations of SXSW 2012. Check out the video below for the 10-minute conversation.
