IgniteKC replaces two former Kansas City conferences, including Think Big Partners’ Think Big Kansas City.

A contest to pick the name of a new Kansas City conference on innovation and entrepreneurship has ended. The organizations behind it, Think Big Kansas City and the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerceannounced today it will be called IgniteKC.

The new conference is a combination of two other events – the Chamber’s Innovation Conference and Think Big’s Think Big Kansas City – and will be held on June 20 at H&R Block‘s corporate headquarters in downtown Kansas City, Mo. The conference is dedicated to educating and motivating innovators, entrepreneurs and like-minded individuals by giving them an arena to learn, grow and connect.

The IgniteKC website is expected to launch soon with more details, including an event schedule and information about tickets. In the meantime, a preview of what’s ahead can be found on kc2012.com.

The winner of the naming contest – an individual who will receive a free ticket for the life of the event – was not announced at this time. Laura Goede of Think Big said that the name was submitted by multiple people in various forms and was brought up by the event committee members prior to the naming contest.

The IgniteKC name has caused some confusion because a different event, first held in 2006 in Seattle and now held throughout the world, uses a similar naming format — Ignite followed by the name of the host city. O’Reilly Media organizes those Ignite events, and in 2009 the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation hosted an Ignite Kansas City event. However, the IgniteKC announced by the Chamber and Think Big is not affiliated with the O’Reilly Media events.
