Nebraska students with an interest in entrepreneurship will have a chance to whip themselves into startup shape May 14-18 at the Bootcamp for Technology and Entrepreneurship put on by NUtech Ventures in Lincoln. Registration for the event is open now and continues through May 4.

Billed as an intensive, week-long training course on what it takes to turn an idea into a high-tech business, the program is open to undergraduates, graduates and post-docs from any school in Nebraska.

Topics covered at the boot camp will include business model generation, customer development, team building, legal basics and financing. Organizers say the event uses some of the same techniques and philosophies as Steve Blank‘s Lean Launchpad

A few more tidbits on the event, courtesy of its website:

  • No bakeries or boutiques here — we’ll be focusing on the skills you need to build investment-grade, high-growth potential companies in fields like biotech, software, and engineering.
  • All majors welcome! Sure, high-tech need coders and engineers, but they also need business people and designers. You’ll be working as part of a diverse team in the bootcamp.
  • This isn’t a set of lectures, so don’t plan on just sitting in the back of the room. Entrepreneurship’s all about working hard and interacting with teammates, partners, and customers. You’ll practice that by working with a team to start developing your own business model, and you’ll learn the next steps to take if you want to turn that model into a startup company of your own.

Spots in the boot camp are limited, and interested students must complete an online application to qualify for consideration. The event costs $100 to attend, which covers materials and meals for the week. Additional information about the event is available on nutechventures.org/bootcamp.
