Today we welcome to the Silicon Prairie News team three new faces that will be spending the next 12 weeks with us. But unlike interns in years past that we’ve housed in our Omaha office, our interns this summer are based in cities throughout the Silicon Prairie.

Paige Yowell, a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who lives in Lincoln, and Sarah Binder, a recent graduate of Iowa State University who’s based in Ames, are joining the editorial team. Kelsey Supenski, a senior at UNL who’s spending the summer in Omaha, is coming on board the event team.

Paige and Sarah are working with me and Michael Stacy covering the region’s companies and entrepreneurs. We’re especially excited to have them joining the team at a time when we’re finding an increasing number of stories we’d like to tell but don’t always have the bandwidth to pursue. When we began our search, we intended to hire just one editorial intern, but Paige and Sarah were such strong candidates that we asked both to join the team. Both come to SPN with strong journalism experience — Paige as an Omaha World-Herald fellow and Sarah as the business editor at the Iowa State Daily.

Kelsey is working working with Brittany Mascio, SPN’s event coordinator, helping plan meetups, the Silicon Prairie Awards and Thinc Iowa, among other events. She brings experience that includes coordinating two state conferences for Nebraska DECA. As we continue to add more functions to our calendar, Kelsey’s work this summer will help to fuel that growth.

So whether they’re lending a hand preparing for a future event in Kansas City or a story we’re working on for tomorrow, these three ambitious interns will play important roles in the continued growth of SPN. Help us welcome Paige, Sarah and Kelsey in the comments below, check out their bios on our team page or find them on Twitter: @paigeyowell, @sarahebinder and @ksupenski.
