The app, Bodeefit, which launched in the Window 8 store last week, offers users a daily workout routine and weekly meal plan. Inspired by the training program CrossFit, the workouts do not to require “expensive gym memberships or workout equipment,” according to a company press release. The weekly meal plans, based on the paleo diet (a diet that mainly features meat, fruit, vegetables and roots), are provided by PaleOMG, a company owned by Bodeefit advisory board member Juli Bauer.

“We are tapping into a very passionate community of paleo enthusiasts and CrossFitters, which has allowed us to grow quickly,” Griffin said. When the app launched last week, the startup had already attracted more 6,000 people to its email list, according to the press release.

Griffin, a Kansas native, teamed up with his high school friend Blake Miller to build the app. Miller, a partner at Think Big Partners, brought his company into the mix, enlisting the help of its technical director Eric Dorsey and creative director Jared Krause in order to see the app to fruition. For its involvement, Think Big Partners earned a co-founder role and equity stake in Bodeefit, Griffin said in an email.

“We have used this not only as an opportunity to build a killer app, but also to explore the Windows 8 platform,” Miller (right) said in a press release. “We want to build on it, experience it and then help others do the same. This is a tremendous opportunity for both Bodeefit and Think Big Partners for discovering a new distribution channel.”

Each of the team members have kept their full-time jobs, including Griffin, who works for Denver startup FullContact. Going forward, the team plans to add new content, such as workouts and recipes, Griffin said, and release Bodeefit on iOS and Android, as well.

Bodeefit is a free app and users can sign up to receive daily workouts in their email inbox at no cost. Plans that offer more features start at $7 per month.
