Coworking has found a home outside Kasas City’s typical hotbeds of downtown and the Crossroads district.

Melissa Saubers opened Cowork Waldo February 1 at Wornall Road and 75th Street to fill the need for office and conference space for people living in Waldo, Brookside and the surrounding areas. She also did it out of frustration with her own situation.

“As I started to bring others on to expand my marketing communications business it was difficult working out of my home,” Saubers (left), president, said in an email. “There would be dirty dishes in the sink, the dogs would be barking, it was not the optimal environment to work in or to have others working with me.”

She knew a lot of people working out of their homes and coffee shops nearby, she said, and wanted to create a “bright, productive environment” for entrepreneurs and independent workers. She’s been intertwined in the Waldo community as a former realtor, business owner and Waldo Business Assocation president and currently runs her marketing communications company, Saubers Communications Group, out of Cowork Waldo.

With her in the space are Xtraction Solutions, Chameleon Resources and several others. Four of the six dedicated desks are open and 20 drop-in members can be accomodated on a given day. The entire space can be rented out for meetings, training or networking, which has been used by Disruption Institute and Cultivate Kansas City.

Options include half-day drop-ins; flex cards for 5, 10 and 20 days; and dedicated desks. Visit Cowork Waldo’s site for plans and pricing

Turnstone came by to provide design advice and much of the furniture.

Conference space is available to members and anyone who wants to host networking or training.
