The Silicon Prairie News team at the inaugural Big Kansas City this week.

As an intern at Silicon Prairie News you’ll be at the center of the action. You’ll participate in our daily stand-up meetings, join the discussion in our company chat room and help yourself to snacks in our office. You’ll also play integral roles in our events, which bring in such notable speakers as Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh, Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley, entrepreneur and designer Marc Eckō and author Sarah Lacy.

We’re offering two paid internships this summer—an editorial internship and an event internship—for college undergraduate students. To apply, see the job descriptions and links below. We’ll take applications through April 19.

Editorial internship

The editorial intern will report on entrepreneurs and startups as well as cover our events, such as Big Des Moines (above).

The summer editorial internship is a paid position of 20 hours per week starting in late May and ending in early August. As we have a regional focus, we’re looking for someone based in or around the Silicon Prairie flagship cities of Omaha, Des Moines and Kansas City. The position requires you provide your own computer.

After the internship is finished, you’ll have a better understanding of the online news industry, the tech startup scene in the Midwest (and elsewhere) and, best of all, a portfolio of work to showcase to prospective future employers.

If you have questions, please contact Danny Schreiber at danny@siliconprairienews.com.

Event internship (Des Moines or Omaha)

The event intern will work behind the scenes at our major events, such as Big Des Moines (above).

The summer event internship is a paid position of 20 hours per week starting in late May and ending in early August. With our two fall events taking place in Des Moines—Silicon Prairie Awards and Big Des Moines—and our event department mainly located in Omaha, we’re looking for someone based in or nearby either city. The position requires you provide your own computer.

After the internship is finished, you’ll have experience planning logistics for two 500-plus person events, marketing those events via social media and working with high-profile speakers and attendees, among other activities.

If you have questions, please contact Brittany Mascio at brittany@siliconprairienews.com.
