Rumors are afloat Google Fiber may be hooking up with Austin, Texas. Google and the City of Austin sent an invitation to select business leaders to hear about “something new” at 11 a.m. April 9. The only problem is the invitation doesn’t specify what will be announced, which could mean it’s a partnership, pilot program or new campus. In November, Google spokesperson Jenna Wandres told Silicon Prairie News that no future Fiber locations had been determined. “We are fully focused on Kansas City right now, and we haven’t made any decisions about where Google Fiber is going next,” she said, noting at that time Google still had 89 percent of its Kansas City Fiberhoods to build out. — Source: GigaOM
