Cedar Falls-based company Banno announced in a press release Wednesday that Ben Metz, a three-year employee at the startup, has been promoted to CTO.

“Ben has created a culture of continued learning, peer mentoring, and product execution from no employees on his team to over 40 in 24 months,” said CEO Wade Arnold last year in reference to Metz’s nomination as a Silicon Prairie Awards finalist. “Ben is a product person at heart. With no formal secondary education, he is a world class, self-taught functional programming and distributed system software engineer that has learned the trade simply to make the user experience of mobile banking better.”

Metz will lead a team of 31 full-time and 31 part-time employees and oversee product implementation as well as the project process from start to finish.
