The first Startup Weekend Spencer is off and running with three teams working to create viable companies in just one weekend.

On Friday evening the 16 people registered for northwest Iowa’s first Startup Weekend gathered at StartupCity Spencer, pitched ideas and formed teams to work to create projects throughout the weekend.

With a population of less than 12,000, organizer Sara Magnussen believes that the city will be the smallest ever to host a Startup Weekend.

Learn more about the three teams competing at Startup Weekend Spencer:

  • SnapPunch – A web-based app that helps simplify the punch list process to save contractors and their customers time and money.
  • PushLoyalty – A mobile app that allows businesses to connect directly with their customers allowing them to redeem points and be rewarded for their consumer loyalty.
  • Cyndee’s Pies – Offering 100 varieties of homemade, locally-sourced pies.
Final presentations will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday and are open to the public. This weekend’s judges are Jim and Karen Linder of Linseed Capital, CTO of R&D Industries Don Van Oort, Steve Garrell of Community State Bank and Creative Corridor senior vice president Brian Dalziel.
