The Des Moines Register in February rolled out a new series focusing on startup communities around Iowa. The series, titled “Starting up Iowa,” kicked off with a story package looking at the “Cedar Valley,” the area of northeast Iowa near Cedar Falls and Waterloo.
This month the Register’s coverage expanded to the Ames startup community for the second installment in the series.
“It’s a ‘grassroots’ startup ecosystem advocates hope to build in the shadow of the university,” said Des Moines Register reporter Marco Santana in the series feature story. “The companies are smaller, many Web- or mobile-based, and sit in stark contrast to the capital-intensive biotech and agriculture businesses Ames is generally known for.”
