Sporting Park’s Boulevard Members Club played host to Kansas City IT Professional’s Hack the Midwest.
A children’s iPad app came out on top at the second annual Hack the Midwest last weekend after ideas were kicked around for 24 hours and pitched just off the pitch at Sporting Park‘s Boulevard Members Club in Kansas City, Kan.
About 150 developers and designers formed teams Saturday to present 30 apps in front of a panel Sunday at the Members Club. Ten awards were handed out, with three “special award” categories and seven API partner prizes—the latter based upon using a specific API for the app.

Coding quality isn’t judged for the event, according to the Hack the Midwest site, and instead the focus is placed on completeness, user interface and originality.
Sticker Story Book, developed by Darren Cauthon, Caleb Cauthon and Rebecca Tombaugh, won “Best Of Show,” which landed them three Apple TVs and five tickets to Compute Midwest in the fall. According to a blog post from Michael Gelphman, founder of Kansas City IT Professionals—the host of the event—the app “allows young children to create their own interactive stories by dragging stickers on to backgrounds.”
The other two “special award” winners were “Most Entertaining” SoBEERiety for its “database of brews you have tried” and “Most Challenging Tech” Crowd Armor for “crowd-sources online social media security.”
