How many hours do you spend on social media outlets throughout the week? Social Scene Midwest––a new study of social media trends across the Great Plains––wants to know.
A collaboration between eastern Iowa companies Brand Driven Digital and Vernon Research Group, the survey was created to understand how individuals across the Midwest use social media and which platforms are most popular. As social media has begun to change the way individuals and brands interact with others, the team behind Social Scene Midwest noticed other studies weren’t examining trends or regional social scenes.
“It’s something that both Vernon and ourselves are committed to learning more and helping provide a focused view of our region and the impact technology has,” said Nick Westergaard, chief brand strategist at Brand Driven Digital.
According to organizers, the survey’s results will be the “most comprehensive study of social media use by both consumers and businesses across 10 Midwestern states.” The survey, which closes in about a month, will include responses from those in the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Westergaard says the group hopes to get 1,000 responses for both the individual and business survey. Individual results will be released later this summer and business insights will be unveiled in October during the Social Brand Forum in Corallville, Iowa.
