MindMixer’s Nathan Preheim raised barns, now he’s raising a startup

How founders arrive at their startup idea rarely is a straight path, but there’s always a starting point. Mistakes, obstacles and profound moments often mesh to bring them to their passion. Omaha-based MindMixer has grown a lot since its inception in 2010, to where it has now secured a $4 million Series B round and grown to a team of almost 30. Co-founder and COO Nathan Preheim today wrote on the company’s blog about how his Mennonite background—a religion with similar traits to the Amish—laid the foundation for MindMixer’s principles of crowdsourcing and collectivism, while also playing a role in how the team works. “I grew up hearing stories about how my grandparents participated in barn raisings,” he writes. “Collectively, the community would build a barn in a weekend.
