Singly, a San Francisco company co-founded by Cascade, Iowa, native and software guru Jeremie Miller (below, left), has been acquired by mobile app platform giant Appcelerator.

The announcement came this morning in a press release and “self-interview” blog post by Appcelerator CEO Jeff Haynie.

“The Singly team understands the challenges in moving data in a scalable way across the Internet like few others,” he said. “And because of their expertise, they know how to make the job of working with data through APIs very easy for developers.”

Singly’s API integration management software, Data Fabric, allows developers to access data across multiple apps and devices without the hassle of connecting each third-party API individually. The product creates a sort of abstraction layer for a host of public APIs—LinkedIn, Twitter, Google Calendar—so developers aren’t subject to changes within underlying APIs. Singly handles the app and API connection, regardless of subtle changes in the API framework, so the respective softwares can still talk to one another.

For developers, it’s one less thing to worry about and a welcome relief from the tedious work of hand coding every time a public API changes.

“That’s what Singly gives us: an even richer way for developers to get out of the weeds, and back to the fun of creating great apps,” said Haynie (right).

Appcelerator boasts nearly 500,000 developers using its platforms. Singly specializes in data portability, while Appcelerator offers two separate platforms, providing developers with the tools they need to build apps that are compatible with different OSs and devices.

The way Singly sees it? We’ve got the data. Appcelerator delivers the framework.

“Appcelerator offers tons of great app development tools and mobile backend services (push notifications, analytics, etc)—adding Singly’s API integration management into that will make it even easier to build great mobile apps,” said the Singly Founders in a blog post.

Singly will continue to offer full services to clients over the next few months. Appcelerator plans to have Singly integrated into its services by early next year.
