“Do you mind if we start calling you managing editor?” That’s the question I posed to Fred Bauters, SPN’s Kansas City editor, over the weekend.

And today we are extremely excited to announce that Fred has been promoted to managing editor of Silicon Prairie News.

Fred joined the team in February and hit the ground running—or at times sprinting—writing the stories of the Kansas City startup community. He has jumped in quickly and played significant roles in the inaugural Big Kansas City and fifth Big Omaha, and most recently as co-host at last Thursday’s Silicon Prairie Awards. However, what is most exciting about having Fred on our team is his ability to lead and connect not only in the newsroom, but across the organization and into the community.

As we look forward, we are focused on building our team and putting the resources in place to embark on what’s next for Silicon Prairie News—a plan that will grow the organization not only in our region but across the Greater Midwest. And as we do that, we’re beginning our search for another editor to join SPN’s editorial team. Interested? Apply now

It’s an ambitious journey, but we know there’s no better person than Fred to lead our newsroom. Please take a moment to congratulate Fred in the comments below or tweet him at @fredbauters.
