In Des Moines and Kansas City, Wednesday mornings mean coffee and sharing ideas with other entrepreneurs. Now two more Silicon Prairie cities—Omaha and Lincoln—are being added to the 1 Million Cups roster.

“After seeing the impact 1 Million Cups has had on neighboring cities, we’re excited to bring the event to Nebraska,” said organizer Shane Reiser. “Our hope is that this weekly gathering will increase the state’s connectivity and knowledge share, and in the end, build better startups. We’re grateful for the support of our two host venues, the University of Nebraska Omaha and Nebraska Global, and the facilitator of the event, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.”

The meetup will be split between the two cities—the first three Wednesdays of the month in Omaha and the last Wednesday in Lincoln. The first 1 Million Cups Omaha-Lincoln will be held Oct. 30 in Omaha from 9 to 10 a.m. and will feature Julie Mahloch (right). Before founding Bloom, a social beauty network, in 2010, Mahloch co-founded online retailer Hayneedle

“We’re especially excited about the venues,” said organizer Danny Schreiber. “In Omaha it’ll be held at UNO’s Mammel Hall, home of the university’s business school and entrepreneurship program, and in Lincoln it’ll be at Nebraska Global, a software development firm filled with dozens of entrepreneurs.”

The Omaha-Lincoln meetup was organized by Reiser, Schreiber and Crave Engine’s Scott Bishop. 1 Million Cups events are now held in 22 communities across the country, including Columbia, Mo.; Iowa City, Iowa; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
