Just in time for Kansas City Startup Village‘s first birthday, Kansas City, Kan., mayor Mark Holland added another accolade to its list of accomplishments. In an official proclamation, Holland named Oct. 5 Kansas City Startup Village Day. In its first year, KCSV—spearheaded by local entrepreneurs Ben BarrethMatthew Marcus and Adam Arredondo—has been home to 28 startups and seen visitors from more than 40 countries.

As for what’s next for the endeavor, the group plans to keep building. “There will be a co-working space in the near future,” Marcus told Silicon Prairie News earlier this month. “Everyone asks where the center point of the KCSV is right now, and by default it’s been the first house. I could see that space as a new anchor. There’s some great commercial real estate in the area too that I think is a steal. Not that we want to push out nearby businesses, but it’d be great to see more activity in the form of restaurants, coffee shops.”
