This week national organization Code for America announced the launch of BizFriend.ly, a new online resource to help entrepreneurs find the tools to build and grow their businesses.
BizFriend.ly offers a variety of online lessons created by entrepreneurs, business experts and community organizers to help founders everywhere learn everything from managing finances to promoting your startup online.
Code for America fellows Ariel Kennan and Andrew Hyder were assigned to Kansas City for their fellowship year, and through their research, the pair found the city suffered from “a digital divide in access and skills.” The resource was created through a year-long partnership between Kansas City, Mo., the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, Kansas City, Kan., and Code for America as a way to rethink economic development through online education.
“There are many issues that cross state boundaries and economic development is one of them,” Kansas City, Mo., mayor Sly James said in a Code for America blog post. “This regional collaboration through technology is a first in municipal government and shows that government doesn’t have to be an impediment but instead, is a useful conduit of prosperity.”
