Prairie Portrait: Bridget McQuillan of Flywheel

If money wasn’t an object, my next company would be… a video/photography studio that specifically works with nonprofits, musicians and grassroots organizations.

Prairie Portraits is a weekly set of questions intended to help the community get to know someone from the Silicon Prairie community a little bit better. Prairie Portraits feature a fixed set of questions ranging from career background and personal perferences to, perhaps, off-the-wall questions on YouTube videos and entrance music.

Name: Bridget McQuillan
Title/Occupation: Marketing Content Coordinator at Flywheel. I make videos, write blogs and run social media.
Age: 22
Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska
Current city: Omaha, Nebraska
Twitter: @bridgethegap8

Personal

Title of my autobiography: “Adventures with my Camera”
Thing I can’t live without: My camera and adventures 😉
Drink of choice: Water
Last book I read: “Creative Confidence” by Tom and David Kelley
Ultimate road trip snack: Pull n’ Peel Twizzlers
Entrance song if I was a wrestler: “Daft Punk is Playing at My House” by LCD Soundsystem
Celebrity doppelgänger: As a child I kind of looked like Matilda.
Guilty pleasure band and/or film: Blink-182
Chosen career in an alternate reality: One of the people who swims with the whales at Sea World.
Worst OCD tendency: Correcting anyone who uses “everyday” when they should be using “every day.”
Quote I might have said: “Reality is for people who lack imagination.”
Which actor or actress, and why: Russell Crowe because he’s brilliant.
Favorite YouTube video: This is probably my favorite and most watched video of all time because it’s just really, really beautiful live music (and also one of my favorite bands).

Local

Best place in Omaha no one knows about: State Street west of 72nd—it’s my favorite road to drive on. It has amazing rolling hills and there’s always something to look at.
Omaha’s obligatory tourist stop: Henry Doorly Zoo
One thing Omaha has that other Silicon Prairie cities don’t: Hear Nebraska, an awesome nonprofit dedicated to local music.
Best thing going for Omaha’s startup community: Other amazing communities (creative, music, small business etc.) that all work together to support each other.
Last local restaurant I ate at: Block 16
Best meal I’ve had in Omaha: The salmon sandwich with sweet potato fries from McFoster’s is one of my favorite things in the world.
Omaha would be better if… there were mountains.

The Startup Scene

Social media pet peeve: Everyone on this list.
App I’m obsessed with: VSCOcam
Silicon Prairie startup crush: Omaha Code School
Most comfortable startup T-shirt I own: I basically hoard Nebraska Global T’s because they’re so soft.
Something most people don’t know about me: I’ve been to 147 concerts this year.
Entrepreneur I most want to grab a drink with:  Megan Hunt and Sarah Tvrdik from Hello Holiday
I do what I do because… I get to tell stories and create things all day long.
Before I was in startups… I was in college and spent my time taking pictures of bands (I still do the second part).
If money wasn’t an object, my next company would be… a video/photography studio that specifically works with nonprofits, musicians and grassroots organizations.
The Silicon Prairie startup scene is missing… more women coding, creating, leading, etc.
In five years, I’ll… still be constantly creating things.
In five years, the Silicon Prairie… will be taking over the world 😉
