SPN’s new Omaha editor hates to write bios, but here’s one anyway

Sigh. I hate bios. I especially hate bios that say so and so is “addicted to coffee” or “a wannabe gourmet cook” or “a social media guru/ninja/pro.” Really, it’s more interesting if you’re not addicted to coffee. Sigh. I hate bios. I especially hate bios that say so and so is “addicted to coffee” or “a wannabe gourmet cook” or “a social media guru/ninja/pro.”

Really, it’s more interesting if you’re not addicted to coffee.

Also, let’s delete anything with the words “junkie,” “buff” or “aficionado.”

I try not to play into the cliches when it comes to describing myself, but it’s an easy trap to fall into.

BECOME A SPONSOR

So let’s try not do that.

My name is Jordan Pascale and I’m your new Omaha editor at Silicon Prairie News.

I’m new to the whole startup community — I’ve been covering government and city news for the Lincoln Journal Star newspaper for about the past four years.

So this is new and exciting and a little bit different.

I may not think like an entrepreneur, but I’m looking forward to immersing myself in the community. I’m a sponge and I want you — the startup founders, the creatives, the funders —  to fill me with your knowledge.

I’m going to need a lot of help.

Journalism, however, is not new to me. I hope with my experience I can provide you with the best, most thorough tech/startup news possible.

I’ve been in journalism since I was 16 at Millard North High School in West Omaha. I wanted to play varsity sports, but was a terrible athlete so I did the next best thing — write about them.

And while sports sparked my interest in reporting, I later morphed into a news journalist while at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

During college I interned for the Omaha World-Herald and the Lincoln Journal Star where I later got my first full-time job. For about the past four years I’ve been covering the county and city governments of Lincoln and Lancaster County as well as the building of the $160 million Pinnacle Bank Arena.

I can’t wait to come back to my hometown and start this new job with great new co-workers and exciting content to write about. Tech innovation has always been one of my favorite things to follow as a hobby, so it will be a pleasure to cover it for a job.

Get at me on Twitter, @LJSPascale, for now, but that’ll change on the 16th.

If you have a new handle suggestion, shoot it my way.

Talk to you soon, or if you’re in KC for the meetup, say hi tonight.
