Join me for the first meeting of Des Moines’ Startup Book Club March 28

I’ve always been an avid reader. I’ve always been an avid reader. Whether it’s a New York Times bestseller or the latest work of nonfiction from a favorite author, reading has always been a way for me to relate to others’ experiences and learn something new.

And it’s no secret entrepreneurs love both of those things. So I got to thinking, why not get a group of startup community members together for an entrepreneurial book club?

One of the most common concerns I found when I started talking to other people in the community about an entrepreneurial-focused book club was time—for some entrepreneurs, one book a month seemed like a big ask.

So we’re starting off small, with a low-bar ask and just half a book or so each month. (Even though AJ and Joe from ClusterFlunk make me feel like a slacker because they each read one book a week).

We’ll be kicking things off Friday, March 28, at StartupCity Des Moines with the first four chapters (to p. 83) of Gary Vaynerchuk’s new book, “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook.” Stop by, eat your lunch and chat with other entrepreneurs about what you learned on telling your startup’s story using social media.

As of now, we’ll be meeting the last Friday of each month at StartupCity, which means we’ll finish up “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook” for April 25. If you’re not based in Des Moines, we haven’t quite figured out a way to open up the discussion yet, but feel free to read along with us anyway.

Join me for the first meeting of Startup Book Club in Des Moines on Friday, March 28 from noon to 1 p.m. at StartupCity Des Moines, 317 6th Ave., 5th floor.
