Other companies around Iowa previously have hosted hackathons to help service local charities’ tech needs, but now a group of community leaders are coming together to create dsmHack.

The 48-hour event is looking for nonprofit organizations from across the state that need any sort of tech resource, such as an app or website.

Interested charities can submit an application online through June 1. Six nonprofits will be selected and notified by that date as well.

The inaugural hackathon will be held June 12-14 at StartupCity Des Moines. Developers, engineers, computer programmers and designers also are encouraged to attend to help build out the nonprofits’ projects.

Registration costs $20, which includes food and a T-shirt.
