Kansas City, Mo., could be getting a lot smarter thanks to Cisco Systems. In a public-private partnership, the City will work with Cisco to beta test a “smart city” network that uses sensors and other technology to bring back information on city issues like transportation, security, parking and infrastructure—right now, smart lighting and applications for the coming streetcar come to mind. Through the Internet of Things, potential efficiencies and solutions can be found, and Mayor Sly James says KC will be a living test lab: “This is going to give our entrepreneurs a chance to build their own unique, innovative application to enhance the public experience and even solve some deep-rooted city-related problems.” — Source: Kansas City Business Journal
