There are lots of way to help celebrate and grow a local startup community. At iKC: The Unconference, that means getting leaders from all different areas together in the same room and getting them to talk about what they find important.

Hosted by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and Think Big Partners, iKC offers entrepreneurs and innovators a chance to come together for an open-format “unconference.”

The unconference model allows attendees to decide what’s most important to them and what the day’s sessions and topics look like. Attendees can submit topics on the iKC website for potential discussion during the event.

The third-annual event, held Aug. 21 at KC’s Union Station, also just made several big announcements about new and updated experiences.

Andy White, a partner at the VegasTechFund, leader in Las Vegas’ Downtown Project and executive director of BoomStartup, will provide a keynote at 1:30 p.m. He’ll speak about what he’s learned through his various experiences and how KC can continue to grow its startup community. He wants to help cities empower and inspire entrepreneurial ecosystems where technology and innovation explode and the community becomes an accelerator.

In addition to the breakout sessions and White’s keynote address, attendees will have a chance to meet with Kansas City industry experts and leaders for 20-minute, one-on-one, UnMentor sessions. Entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply to meet one-on-one with high-level, local mentors. To apply to the program, purchase a ticket and check “yes” when prompted on the UnMentor Program.

The unconference also will feature a State of Entrepreneurship address from KCSourcelink, which is creating the inaugural “Making Kansas City America¹s Most Entrepreneurial City” report, aimed at illustrating the impact of Kansas City entrepreneurship.

Interested in attending? Tickets are available online and start at $50 for startups, small-business owners and nonprofits.
