Startup Digest now has Omaha/Lincoln and KC editions after a long hiatus.

The cities used to be in a “Silicon Prairie” list, but has since been broken down into specific cities. It appears there were only curated events lists for Omaha and KC, with no events listed in Des Moines and Iowa City for quite some time.

Shane Reiser of Startup Genome is curating the events newsletter for Omaha/Lincoln.

“A few years ago when they did one big newsletter, there wasn’t much happening on the Prairie,” Reiser said. “Now, they are splitting it up because there’s enough going on in each city to make it worthwhile.

“I see this is as a signal that others outside our community are recognizing how much we are growing.”

The weekly newsletter is to inform local entrepreneurs and techies about events in the area, but in a curated way and for lazy people who just want it in their inbox, he said. Reiser said his goal is to list the five best events each week instead of a long list of every event.

Startup Digest was initially formed in Silicon Valley, where it has 15,000-plus members. Omaha has 168 subscribers in just a week, which made it the fourth fastest-growing list in the world last week out of 285 other cities.
