Startup Grind launches at The Port at Iowa Western Community College

Startup Grind, a long-form Q&A session with an established startup founder, is coming to Council Bluffs. The Port, Iowa Western Community College’s entrepreneurial co-working space, is hosting the first event on Aug. 19. at 5:30 p.m, and Josh Powell and Nick Mauer, co-founders of MTRL, will be the first guests.

The Port, Iowa Western Community College’s entrepreneurial co-working space, is hosting the first event on Aug. 19. at 5:30 p.m, and Josh Powell and Nick Mauer, co-founders of MTRL, will be the first guests.

“Startup Grind is an event dedicated to educating, inspiring and connecting entrepreneurs through inviting in local business owners to share their entrepreneurial adventures in an open forum setting,” said Jennifer Coffman, Startup Grind Council Bluffs director and project coordinator at The Port.

Attendees learn the intimate details of an entrepreneur’s business experience while having the opportunity to network with other entrepreneurial attendees and featured guest speakers.

MTRL Design is a laser cutting and design firm located in the Mastercraft building in North Downtown Omaha. They use a giant laser engraver to create unique products out of wood like engraved coasters, ornaments, keychains and even can cut large pieces of wood and assemble them into furniture.

Scott Peck, who runs the co-working space at the Port said he’s excited to bring an event to enhance the entrepreneurial environment in Council Bluffs.

“Our goal is for the Council Bluffs and Omaha area to continue networking, inspiring and supporting current and future entrepreneurs and for students and community members to realize that startups are a career,” he said in a press release.

Future Startup Grind Council Bluffs events will feature speakers like RaceNote CEO Dusty Reynolds on Sept. 16 and CEO and founder of Cutchall Management Greg Cutchall on Oct. 21.
