COLUMBIA, Mo.—Columbia’s fourth-annual Startup Weekend is about to kick off. The opening party will be at Quinton’s Bar and Grill on Thursday, October 2, and the event takes place Friday through Sunday at the Museao Building.

Following standard Startup Weekend protocol, this weekend-long event aims to spark entrepreneurial engagement among students, designers, developers, business professionals and more. Teams will pitch their ideas on Friday and offer up their final presentations on Sunday at 5 p.m.

“It’s exciting how each year we’re able to improve the event as local awareness and community support keep growing,” said Columbia Startup Weekend director Heidi Fuhrman. “It really shows we’re on track when sponsors are reaching out because they want their stamp on the event.”

A few highlights

This year, the event will feature more local restaurants, as Columbia’s food scene continues to thrive. Organizers are also encouraging attendees to check out the Harvest Hootenanny on October 4, an annual fundraiser for the Columbia Center for Urban Ag. To encourage participation, Startup Weekend will cover meals for all SW participants, coupled with feel-good music and a chance to see what the urban farm is all about.

Startup Weekend brings together participants and local community members/organizations representing private business, governmental, and education realms, all to support the startup scene.
