Last Thursday seven corporate leaders put on their best sales presentations for the Kansas City entrepreneurial community as part of Reverse Pitch, put on by KCnext. Taking the stage at the KC Chamber Board Room in Union Station were Cisco, Adknowledge, Pinsight Media+, BATS, Assurant, Perceptive Software and Black & Veatch.

Their problems were far-ranging, from open-ended “work with us” conversation starters to solving major road blocks in their businesses. It was the event’s third year, and it’s became obvious there’s a desire from both sides of the community to engage as each year has gotten bigger and with more corporations participating. Anyone can take a swing at working with the companies on their pitches and KCnext president Ryan Weber said while there isn’t a deadline on applying to get a meeting with any of them, you’re best off getting after it right away.

With that said, here’s roughly what each company wants help with—Weber also said to expect full videos of the pitches up within the next couple weeks. You can apply through the Reverse Pitch portal.

Pitches

  • Adknowledge—The global digital marketing company is doing just fine by all accounts, but wants to find out if it can bring in more “warm” sales leads for its salespeople through a new means, beyond its recent content marketing efforts.
  • Assurant—There are endless areas for improvement in benefit plans, health care, retirement and more. This traditional company has built out a startup within its walls—Spectrum—to go after all of it. They’re looking for people who have ideas on how to create solutions for emerging trends like remote working, an overweight workforce and a digitally inclined generation of workers.
  • BATS—You may not know it, but KC is home to the third-largest stock exchange in the U.S. It’s hard for a lot of people to understand what an exchange does, so BATS is looking for someone to help it create a virtual experience—app, website, etc.—that explains what they’re all about.
  • Black & Veatch—The engineering firm is in the midst of building out Tesla’s grid of electric-vehicle charging stations. It’s a huge endeavor to coordinate and they could use ideas on how to roll it all out efficiently.
  • Cisco—The tech behemoth is making a big run at the Internet of Everything, including a “smart city” in Kansas City. To do this, they’ll need to make use of video sensors in the same vein as EyeVerify. If you have ideas on how to put video sensors to work, they’re all ears.
  • Perceptive Software—It’s a problem many of us have, but figuring out how to get everyone collaborating in a company as large as Perceptive—especially when you include its parent, Lexmark—can be overwhelming. Specifically, they want to know how to get their developers all on the same page and encouraged to work together on projects even if the tools they’re using are dramatically diverse.
  • Pinsight Media+—Starting to make a name for itself as a major piece at Sprint, Pinsight kept it simple and asked people to help them make better use of all the data they have, whether it means a better solution for how the Census is run, how to make our cities smarter or as simple as making advertisements more meaningful to the user.
